Question 1 (Compulsory)
DESCRIPTION.
The drawing on page 3 represents an entrance into a premises in reinforced concrete. The site is level. The structure is standing on two rectangular frustum pyramid footings supporting two pillars each as seen on the foundation plan. The shelter is of reinforced concrete. The soil is stable and the sides of the trench shall be used as formwork.
WORK TO BE DONE.
a) Calculate the volume of soil to be excavated for the footings. (4 marks)
b) Given that the bulking coefficient of the soil is 1.25 and loss due to compaction is 15% (2 marks)
i) Calculate the volume of soil excavated (6 marks)
ii) Calculate the volume of soil used for back filling (2 marks)
iii) Calculate the volume of soil to be evacuated from the site. (6 marks)
c) Calculate the volume of concrete for footings (2 marks)
d) Calculate the volume of concrete for the pillars from the top of the footings. (4 marks)
e) Calculate the volume of concrete for the reinforced concrete ground beams. (4 marks)
f) Calculate the volume of reinforced concrete for:
i) Upper beams (4 marks)
ii) Shelter (6 marks)
g) Determine the total volume of reinforced concrete for the structure. (2 marks)
Total (40 Marks)

Question 2
The realization of a given project necessitates the following materials:
Blinding concrete: 13.46m³, reinforced concrete: 42.51m³, formwork: 115m²
In a cubic meter of blinding concrete, we have:
200kg of cement, 350l of sand, 700l of gravel, and 200l of water.
Meanwhile in a cubic meter of reinforced concrete we have: 400l of sand, 800l of gravel,
350kg of cement, 225000g of rods and 175 liters of water.
a) You are requested to determine the quantities of sand, gravel and water in cubic meters; the quantities of cement and rods in tons. (3X4=12 marks)
b) Given that the unit times spent are as follows:
Batching and mixing-3.5hrs/m³
Casting and vibration-3.5hrs/m³
Preparing and placing of reinforcements-60hrs/ton
Form work construction-4hrs/m³ and striking of formwork is 3hrs/m².
Determine the time spent for: batching and mixing, casting and vibration, preparing and placing of reinforcement, formwork construction and striking of formwork. (3X5=15 marks)
c) Determine the duration of the project in days given that a working day has 9 hours (3 marks)
Total (30 Marks)
Question 3
A building project necessitates 400m³ of block work of 15X20X40 blocks. The project consumes 120 cubic meters of reinforced concrete. Given that each block unit costs 450 frs and placing cost 75 francs per unit, reinforced concrete cost 140000frs/m³ and its placing is 30% of the cost price.
a) Determine the number of blocks for this project (mortar joints not considered) and deduce the cost of blocks. (3 marks)
b) Determine the cost of placing the blocks. (2 marks)
c) Determine the cost of reinforced concrete. (2 marks)
d) Determine the cost of placing the reinforced concrete. (4 marks)
e) Calculate the cost of material and the labour cost. (4 marks)
f) Determine the dry price of this project (5 marks)
Suppose the dry price of this project is 19,500,000 frs. Installation of the site is evaluated at 5% of the dry price, general expenses are 10% of the dry prices, other expenses are 3% of selling price without taxes
You are requested to calculate:
g) SP WT (8 marks)
h) The company coefficient K (3 marks)
i) Given that the value added tax is 19.25% of SPWT, calculate SPWAT (4 marks)
Total (30 Marks)
