CHAPTER ONE
1.1. WATER RELATION
1.1.1. IMPORTANCE OF WATER TO PLANTS
- Photosynthesis
- Temperature regulation/ transportation
- Formation of cell sap
- Solvent for minerals salt
- Used to keep cells turgid/ shape
- Habit for aquatic plants
- Fertilization in lower plant
- Pollination
- Dispersal
- Germination
- Growth
- Excretion
- Transportation
1.1.2. IMPORTANCE OF WATER TO ANIMALS
- Water is necessary for digestion
- Water is necessary for movement
- To give shape to some organs of the body
- For formation of blood and therefore for circulation of blood
- For washing off parasite from bodies of animals
- Water serves as a solvent for many things within the body
- Water serves as a habit for many aquatic animals
- For excretion
- For growth
- Water is necessary for respiration and it is found in the surface of organisms
- Water serves for cushioning of some deliberate organs such as the brain
1.1.3. USES OF WATER TO MAN
- Water is used for bathing and washing
- Water is used by man for cooking and for drinking
- Water is used by man for disposal of waste product in the house
- It is also used in agriculture and to supply to plants and animals
1.1.4. THE WATER CYCLE
The circulation of water is very important and it is sometimes referred to as the water cycle.
The water supply on earth is constant and it is found in lakes, rivers sees, ocean etc. this water is taken up by plants and it is returned to the surface through respiration, transpiration and decay.
Surface water can be evaporated b heat and then it evaporates to form water vapor in the atmosphere. This water in the atmosphere can then be condensed to fall back as hail, rain and snow.
