Recording Stock
When goods are handed to the store keeper, they are recorded and signed on a stock, tally, or bin card. This card tracks:
- Maximum stock level: the level stock is not allowed to rise beyond.
- Minimum stock level: the level stock is not allowed to fall below (buffer stock).
- Re-order level: the level that triggers ordering new supplies.
On a bin card, any balance carried from the previous period becomes the opening balance. Purchases (receipts) increase the stock balance, and sales (issues) reduce it, giving a running balance after every transaction.
