General Applications of Computers at Home and School
Computers are fast becoming our way of life and one cannot imagine life without computers in today’s world. The following are some areas in which we find the use of computers.
1. Home: computers are used at home for:
- Entertainment: Games, movies, music
- Education: through online learning, research, tutorials
- Communication: through email, social media, video calls
- Productivity: Word processing, spreadsheet analysis, presentation design
- Household Management: Budgeting, scheduling, inventory management
2. School: computers are used in school for:
- Learning
- Doing Research
- Administration in keeping student records, attendance, grades, scheduling
- Communication: through email, announcements, parent-teacher conferences
- Assessment
3. Business for the management of stores, other businesses.
4. Banks, for money transfers, the payment of salaries, and record keeping etc.
5. In industry, computers are used as manufacturing tools to control the production of industrial goods. Thus, they are used to help make such ordinary things as school books and note paper.
6. Hospitals: for medical diagnoses, giving long distance medical assistance, and assisting in surgical procedures.
7. Telecommunication centers, computers are used to exchange data across telephone networks or with satellites and to manage telephone communications.
8. Offices: computers are used to produce documents and keep records.
9. Military: Computers are used by many militaries to perform such functions as encoding and decoding messages, designing weapons, managing communications, guiding drones (pilotless airplanes), and aiming missiles.
