Input Devices
- Keyboard: An input device made up mostly of letters and numbers, used to type data into the computer and to give commands. There are different keyboard layouts, but the best known are QWERTY (mainly used by English speakers) and AZERTY (used by French speakers).
- Mouse: An input device used to control the cursor and to point and click on objects on the computer screen.
Output Devices
- Monitor (screen): A TV-like display attached to the computer on which output can be displayed and viewed. Monitors are available in various sizes, such as 14, 15, 17, 19 and 21 inches.
- Printer: An output device used to print information from the computer onto paper. There are two main types: impact printers and non-impact printers. Impact printers use physical contact to print characters (e.g. dot matrix), while non-impact printers use non-physical methods to print characters (e.g. inkjet, laser).
