Starting a computer
To start a computer, process as follows:
- Check if all the components are well-connected to each other.
- Press the power button on the CPU
- Press the power button on the monitor
- Then wait to let the BIOS be loaded and your computer’s operating system will start.
Booting process of a computer
When the computer starts, the following steps will be followed:
- When you press the power button on the central unit, an electrical pulse is sent to the mother-board which will turn on the BIOS (Basic Input Output System)
- The BIOS that contains the POST (Power on Self-Test) will test and initialize all the hardware. During this sequence called pre-boot, all the components will be tested as well as their compatibility. If this sequence does not pass, the operating system will not be launched.
- If the hardware tests are validated, the BIOS loads the operating system into the RAM (Random Access Memory)
- The operating system boots up and brings us to the desktop or a session
