Lesson 37: Transmission Mediums

Wired Transmission Mediums

  • Twisted pair cables: used in telephone and Ethernet connections.
  • Coaxial cables: used in cable television and internet connections.
  • Fibre optic cables: used in high-speed internet and data transmission.

Wireless Transmission Mediums

  • Radio waves: used in radio communication and wireless networking.
  • Microwaves: used in satellite communication and wireless networking.
  • Infrared (IR): used in remote controls and short-range communication.
  • Bluetooth: used in device-to-device wireless communication.

Bandwidth and Data Throughput

  • Bandwidth: the maximum data transfer rate of a communication channel, measured in bits per second (bps).
  • Data throughput: the actual data transfer rate of a communication channel, also measured in bits per second (bps).
