What Are Internet Services?
Internet services are software applications and tools that provide specific functions and facilities to users over the internet, enabling them to communicate, access information, and perform various tasks online.
Common Internet Services
- Email: allows users to send and receive messages electronically. Messages are sent using email clients, transmitted over the internet using SMTP (Simple Mail Transfer Protocol), and received and stored on email servers using POP (Post Office Protocol) or IMAP (Internet Message Access Protocol).
- File Transfer Protocol (FTP): enables users to transfer files over the internet. Users upload files to FTP servers, where they are stored, and other users can download them.
- World Wide Web (WWW): a system of interlinked hypertext documents accessed via the internet. Users access web pages using web browsers; the pages are stored on web servers, which transmit them to users over the internet.
- Instant messaging: real-time text-based communication over the internet, where users create accounts on messaging platforms and send/receive messages in real time.
- Online banking: banking services provided over the internet, where users access banking platforms using web browsers to manage accounts and conduct transactions.
