Administrative Organization of Cameroon: Regions, Divisions and Subdivisions | Form 4 Citizenship

Administration is the day-to-day management of public affairs. Cameroon is divided into administrative units so that government services can reach citizens and public decisions can be implemented across the country.

The region

The region is the largest administrative unit. Each region has a chief town and services that coordinate government activities. Regional administration helps implement national policies, support development and promote cooperation among divisions.

The division

A division is an administrative unit within a region. It is headed by a senior administrative authority who represents the central government, coordinates public services, maintains order and supervises the implementation of laws and government programmes.

The subdivision

A subdivision is a smaller unit within a division. It brings administration closer to the population. Its authority coordinates local government services, communicates public decisions and helps maintain peace and security.

Importance of administrative organization

  • it brings public services closer to citizens;
  • it supports the implementation of laws and development projects;
  • it improves the collection and communication of information;
  • it facilitates the maintenance of peace, order and security;
  • it coordinates education, health, agriculture and infrastructure services; and
  • it encourages citizens to communicate local needs to government.

Citizens and administration

Responsible citizens respect lawful authorities, provide accurate information, protect public property, participate in local development and report problems through proper channels. Public authorities should act fairly, lawfully and in the public interest.

Summary

Administrative units organize the relationship between central government, local services and communities. Effective administration requires lawful leadership and responsible citizen participation.
