MAP WORK: COMPULSORY
1. Study the topographic map of the Kombone Bakundu area at 1:50,000 and answer the questions that follow:
(a) (i) Identify the main orientation or direction of the flow of the River Meme from its confluence with the Yoke stream to its confluence with the Yue River.(you must support your answer with evidence from the
map). (2 marks)
(ii) Compare the River Meme upstream of Bombele village and downstream of same village with respect
to the course of the stream and the nature of its valley. (4 marks) ‘
(b) Describe the relief characteristics of the portion of the map north of latitude 4° 35′ and east of the Uve
River.( no sketch map is needed). (6 marks)
(c) (i) Draw an annotated sketch map to show the site and situation of Ekombe Bonji in the SE of the
• extract. (Some identified human and physical factors must appear on your sketch). (4 marks)
(ii) Based on evidence or inference from the map, explain why Ekombe Bonji is more likely to grow into
a large town than Kombone Bakundu village in future. (4 marks)
(d) Comment on the spatial distribution of cultivated areas in the whole area. (3 marks)
(e) (i) Sketch a topological diagram of the road network of Kombone Bakundu area between Latitude 4° 35′ and Latitude 4° 41’ using the following settlements as the nodes; Ekombe Bonji,Three Corners Ekombe, the two Three Corners Bekondo, Mafoka Bekondo, Kombone Mission, Kombone Bakundu,
and Marumba Botondoa. (5 marks)
(ii) Calculate the Beta Index of road network connectivity and comment on the significance of the results.
