Digestive disorders
Digestive disorders interfere with the normal processing, absorption, or movement of food. Examples include constipation, diarrhoea, indigestion, heartburn, inflammation, hernia, obesity, and some cancers. Their causes differ and may include infection, diet, reduced physical activity, medication, inherited risk, or damage to body tissues.
Healthy prevention
- Eat a varied diet containing fibre and sufficient water.
- Practise good food hygiene.
- Exercise regularly and maintain a healthy body mass.
- Seek qualified medical assessment when symptoms are severe, persistent, or accompanied by bleeding, dehydration, or unexplained weight loss.
Health
Health is a state of physical, mental, and social well-being, not merely the absence of disease. The health triangle represents the interaction of these three dimensions. A problem in one dimension can affect the others.
| Dimension | Meaning |
|---|---|
| Physical health | Efficient functioning of the body and freedom from preventable illness. |
| Mental health | Ability to think, learn, manage feelings, and respond to challenges. |
| Social health | Ability to form respectful relationships and participate constructively in society. |
Revision questions
