What is an Automated System?
An automated system is a combination of sensors, microprocessors, and actuators that work together to perform tasks without human intervention. Automated systems can be found in various industries, including manufacturing, healthcare, transportation, and more. Examples include:
- Traffic lights: automatically control the flow of traffic.
- Security systems: detect intruders and alert authorities.
- Industrial control systems: monitor and control industrial processes.
- Robotics: perform tasks that require precision and repetition.
Collaboration of Sensors, Microprocessors and Actuators
- Sensors: detect changes in the environment (temperature, light, motion, etc.) and send signals to the microprocessor.
- Microprocessors: process information from sensors, make decisions based on programming and data, and send signals to actuators. Types include Central Processing Units (CPUs), microcontrollers (Arduino, Raspberry Pi), and Digital Signal Processors (DSPs).
- Actuators: perform actions based on microprocessor signals (move, open, close, etc.).
