THEME: CLAMPING DEVICE OF SPECIMEN FOR
UNIVERSAL TENSILE TEST MACHINES
I-SET-UP
The device represented on the drawing on Appendix 1 is a mechanism that permits the clamping of rubber or
fabrics in order to carry out a tensile test on it. The clamping device is composed of two parts:
– – The mobile jaw 4 that translates.
The fixed jaw 3_on which the specimen is clamped.
The mbber or fabrics is placed on the lower jaw. The undulating shape of the jaws is to prevent the tearing of the
tested material in the jaws.
II-DESCRIPTION ANDFUNCTIONING
The rotation of the operating screw 5 in the clockwise direction enables the translation of the mobile jaw 4
which clamps the specimen on the fixed jaw 3_by compressing the springs 7. During the unclamping phase, the
compressed springs maintain the contact between the mobile jaw 4and the end of the operating screw 5
